"The Sound of Freedom"

"The Sound of Freedom"

That's what Virginia Beach locals affectionately call the Navy's F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets that fly overhead. The F/A-18s are the world's most advanced high-performance strike fighters, flying out of Naval Air Station Oceana, located just three miles west of KOA. If you're lucky, you'll see them flying overhead during your stay. You'll definitely hear them! They are loud, but at KOA we appreciate them and honor the servicemen and women who pilot them. While you're here, ask us for directions to the observation park where you can see them land and take off.

Adventure Works Zipline

Come for outdoor beauty, fun, and challenge. Our outdoor zip course is ideal for families and friends, (and everyone else looking for a fun adventure!). Staying at KOA? Don't forget to get the promo code for a discount.

Beaches

Beaches

With miles and miles of open, public beaches, Virginia Beach offers a variety of unique beaches to fit every mood. The famous, beautifully landscaped Virginia Beach Boardwalk runs 3 miles along the beach and resort area. The Boardwalk features live music, street performers, diverse festivals, outdoor cafes with delicious coastal cuisine and nightlife.

If your idea of "a day at the beach" is more relaxed, visit Chesapeake Beach (known to the locals as Chick's Beach) for a more tranquil spot along the scenic Chesapeake Bay. The bay's protected shallow waters are perfect for swimming and be sure to stay for the beautiful sunsets.

For a more secluded environment, the Sandbridge area on Virginia Beach's southern shore is perfect. Sandbridge features breathtaking views and is just 20 minutes from the main resort area.

Our Front Desk staff would be happy to answer any questions and tell you about other beaches and locals hot spots.

Fishing

Fishing

With the food-rich Chesapeake Bay adjoining the Atlantic Ocean, fish here are abundant year-round. Tow your boat and choose from several different ramp locations, opt for a full or half-day private charter, or cast a line from one of the four fishing piers. In December, Virginia Beach holds the annual Waterman's Mid-Atlantic Rockfish Shoot-out, the largest rockfish tournament in the country. That's not surprising, given that 70-90% of the world's rockfish come from the Chesapeake Bay! With so many ways to get a bite, fishing in our waterways offers a year-round challenge for anglers of all skill levels. Just bait your hook and pick your platform.
